Join AWH's Performing Arts Class for Winter/Spring Session!
Those who join in November 2024, are invited to join in all of November's acting and theater One Day classes!
SR PERFORMING ARTS class for HOME SCHOOLERS!
ages 11-19yrs
Mondays 10am-1pm
( optional- stay for dance classes 1:00-4:30pm!)
PERFORMING ARTS training and production classes include:
- a variety of performing arts training classes in acting, improv, voice, special Fx make up, costuming, stage set and design, and theater/Broadway history.
- classes with special guest teaching artists.
- two-three productions( fall: Matilda Jr, winter/spring: TBD- class will vote on a script! ) and additional performing opportunities like local Cabarets and theater opportunities.
- During fall/winter/spring productions - weekly classes will be used for production rehearsals ( AND training!!)
- outside of productions - weekly class will be used for training classes and classes with special guest teaching artists.
PLEASE KNOW…
1) Students may participate in AWH productions without registering for Performing Arts Training class.
2) Performing Arts Training class students will be required to participate in fall and winter/spring productions. Regular auditions will still be required- but all will receive a role. Production Fees will be included in Performing Arts class tuition.
3) During Productions- Friday rehearsals will be added. Mondays 10:00am-1:00pm-ALL cast. Fridays- various cast and scenes will rehearse on Fridays. Friday rehearsal groups will change week to week. When called for a Friday rehearsal- most actors will be called 1-3hrs between 12:00-5:00pm.
What skills will be learned this year during Sr Performing Arts classes?
- Acting skills based on various methods but primarily focused on the Meisner Technique, Stanislovsky Method, Chekov Technique, and Practical Aesthetics approach.
- Experience and training of being in two-three musical theater productions!
- The art of telling a story through action, voice, movement, sound, visuals
- Working like a group to figure out story/information that needs to be conveyed and how to do that as an individual and as a group.
- Voice: voice variation(tone/volume/pitch/rhythm), articulation, projection
- Acting Skills to communicate a character’s motivation, feelings, relationship to other characters/storyline: movement, space/distance, level, eye contact, facial expression, body expression/language/gesture, voice variation(tone/volume/pitch/rhythm), articulation, projection
- Action/Reaction- self and/or with scene partner: communicating expressions, responses, storyline via action/reaction
- How to express through body language and facial expression
- How to use movement, space, levels to communicate character and/or storyline
- Theater Terminology: character, protagonist, antagonist, monologue, dramatic irony, blocking, staging, masking, volume, projection, staging
- Character Development via 5 W’s method
- Character Development: objective( what does character want from other characters/situation/goal), purpose ( what is character’s purpose in scene/storyline/arc), motivation ( what motivates character), obstacles( what is in way of character getting what want and approaches to obtaining what want)

- OCTOBER: 7th, 21st, 28th 10:00am-1:00pm MATILDA Tech week and performances: October 28th-November 3rd ( NO class on 10/14 - The JCC is closed for Columbus Day)
- NOVEMBER:11th, 18th, 25th 10:00am-1:00pm MATILDA Tech week and performances: October 28th-November 3rd ( NO class on 11/4- rest after Matilda Jr Tech + Performance week!)
- DECEMBER 2nd AWH HOLIDAY SHOWFORMANCE and PARTY 1:30-3:30pm (NO classes December 9th-January 6th- AWH supports un-busying and spending time with family and friends during the holiday season. * Tuition is not charged in the month of December*)
- JANUARY: 13th, 27th 10:00am-1:00pm (NO class on 1/20 - The JCC is closed for Martin Luther King Day)
- FEBRUARY: 3rd, 10th, 24th 10:00am-1:00pm (NO class on 2/17 - The JCC is closed for Presidents Day)
- MARCH: 3rd, 10th, 24th, 30th 10:00am-1:00pm (NO class on 3/17 - The JCC is closed for Orange County Spring Break)
- APRIL: 7th, 14th, 21st, 28th 10:00am-1:00pm SR PERFORMING ARTS CLASS SPRING MUSICAL THEATER PERFORMANCE WILL BE HELD IN APRIL- Beetlejuice Jr
- MAY: 5th, 12th, ( save for Make Up Class- 5/19) 10:00am-1:00pm SR PERFORMING ARTS CLASS will perform in AWH's Spring Dance and Theater Showcase.
TUITION includes Monday Sr Performing Arts classes, all Rehearsals for fall/winter/spring productions, an AWH Performing Arts t-shirt, and a production t-shirt for each production and classes with special guest teaching artists. Tuition does not reflect the number of classes that meet each month- tuition reflects total number of classes/rehearsals for the year divided into 9 equal installments( full year students)/5 equal installments ( winter/spring students)
$200 per month for one student. $150 per month per additional sibling.

REQUIRED CLOTHING AND FOOTWEAR: Please note students may wear comfortable clothing to classes. Required clothing is for particular rehearsals and performances.

Class will be held at the Rosen JCC, 11184 Apopka-Vineland Rd, Orlando ( or an alternate venue)
