JR PERFORMING ARTS class for HOME SCHOOLERS!
ages 7-11yrs
Tuesdays 1:45-4:15pm
( optional- arrive earlier in the day for a choice of dance classes 10:15-1:30pm!)
PERFORMING ARTS training and production classes include:
- a variety of performing arts training classes in acting, improv, voice, special Fx make up, costuming, stage set and design, theater/Broadway history and three productions( fall: Seussical KIDS, winter: TBD- class will vote on a script!, spring: TBD- class will vote on a script!)
- During fall/winter/spring productions - weekly classes will be used for production rehearsals ( AND training!!)
- outside of productions - weekly class will be used for training classes and classes with special guest teaching artists.
- possible community performances
PLEASE KNOW…
1) Students may participate in AWH fall, winter, and spring productions without registering for Performing Arts Training class.
2) Performing Arts Training class students will be required to participate in fall, winter, and spring productions. Regular auditions will still be required- but all will receive a role. Production Fees will be included in Performing Arts class tuition.
What skills will be learned this year during Jr Performing Arts classes?
- Experience and training of being in three musical theater productions!
- The art of telling a story through action, voice, movement, sound, visuals
- Working like a group to figure out story/information that needs to be conveyed and how to do that as an individual and as a group.
- Stage Directions: upstage/downstage( and history), upstage right/left, down stage right/left, center stage, down stage/up stage centerstage, entrances/exits, wings
- Voice: voice variation(tone/volume/pitch/rhythm), articulation, projection
- Acting Skills to communicate a character’s motivation, feelings, relationship to other characters/storyline: movement, space/distance, level, eye contact, facial expression, body expression/language/gesture, voice variation(tone/volume/pitch/rhythm), articulation, projection
- Action/Reaction- self and/or with scene partner: communicating expressions, responses, storyline via action/reaction
- How to express through body language and facial expression
- How to use movement, space, levels to communicate character and/or storyline
- Theater Terminology: character, protagonist, antagonist, monologue, dramatic irony, blocking, staging, masking, volume, projection, staging
- Character Development via 5 W’s method
- Character Development: objective( what does character want from other characters/situation/goal), purpose ( what is character’s purpose in scene/storyline/arc), motivation ( what motivates character), obstacles( what is in way of character getting what want and approaches to obtaining what want)

- OCTOBER: 1st, 8th, 15th, 22nd, 29th 2:00-4:30pm SEUSS KIDS Tech week and performances: October 15th-18th
- NOVEMBER:5th, 12th, 19th 2:00-4:30pm (NO class on 11/26 - Thanksgiving Break)
- DECEMBER 2nd AWH HOLIDAY SHOWFORMANCE and PARTY Jr Performance Arts class will perform during Showformance. 1:00-3:30pm (NO classes December 9th-January 7th- AWH supports un-busying and spending time with family and friends during the holiday season. * Tuition is not charged in the month of December*)

- FEBRUARY: 4th, 11th, 18th, 25th 2:00-4:30pm
- MARCH: 4th, 11th, 25th, 31st 2:00-4:30pm JR PERFORMANCE ARTS CLASS WINTER MUSICAL THEATER PERFORMANCE WILL BE HELD IN MARCH- production TBD ( students will choose!) ( NO CLASS 3/18- The JCC is closed for Spring Break)
- APRIL: 8th, 15th, 22nd, 29th 2:00-4:30pm
- MAY: 6th, 13th, ( saved for Make Up Class- 5/20) 2:00-4:30pm JR PERFORMANCE ARTS CLASS SPRING MUSICAL THEATER PERFORMANCE WILL BE HELD IN MAY- production TBD ( students will choose!) JR PERFORMANCE ARTS CLASS will perform in AWH's Spring Dance and Theater Showcase.
TUITION includes Tuesday Jr Performing Arts classes, Rehearsals for fall/winter/spring productions, an AWH Performing Arts t-shirt, and a production t-shirt for each production. Tuition does not reflect the number of classes that meet each month- tuition reflects total number of classes/rehearsals for the year divided into 9 equal installments
$165 per month for one student. $150 per month per additional sibling.

REQUIRED CLOTHING AND FOOTWEAR: Please note students may wear comfortable clothing to classes. Required clothing is for particular rehearsals and performances.

Class will be held at the Rosen JCC, 11184 Apopka-Vineland Rd, Orlando ( or an alternate venue)
